2019 saw the introduction of the first full time girls representative football programs in the Hills District. The Girls Skills Acquisition Program (GSAP) for 10’s – 13’s and Girls Conference League (GCL) for 14’s, 15’s and 17’s has been a big success for female football in the Hills.
A brand new state of the art, artificial pitch for training and games at Bella Vista Public School has given the girls a great home base in which to hone their skills and progress rapidly in their football development over the course of the 2019 season.
Coaches agreed at the start of the season that this first year may be difficult, playing against teams that had been in the FNSW run competitions in a full time capacity for a number of years, but to both the girls and coaches’ credit, the teams have gone from strength to strength, consistently competing against the strongest of teams, playing some fantastic football.
In fact, this year four girls from the Hills GSAP programs were chosen in NSW State Title teams and our 17’s GCL coach Peter Denyer was chosen as coach of the of the Under 14’s State Title Metro West team. Congratulations to Sarah (12’s GSAP), Isla (12’s GSAP) and Billi-Rose (13’s GSAP) for making the Under 12’s Metro West Team and Raya (13’s GSAP) for making the Under 14’s Metro West Team. All 4 girls will compete in the NSW State Titles Carnival at Valentine Sports Park in September. We wish them and Peter the best of luck.
Yesterday, saw the last round games of the 2019 season played for both GCL and GSAP at their home ground – Bella Vista Public School against Blacktown Spartans (GSAP) and Football South Coast (GCL). The display of football, teamwork and comradery was fantastic and is a testament to the girls commitment throughout the season.
With the 2019 female representative season now complete, we look forward to trials for the 2020 season. Information regarding trials for all Hills female representative programs will be posted in the coming weeks, once advised of dates by Football NSW.
