Premier League Season Review
A three way battle for top spot has finally ended with the Kellyvile Kolts taking out the Minor Premiership. The Kolts missed the finals on goal difference in 2017 and got to work in the off-season to make amends. With over 70 players trialling for a spot, they were in good stead going into road one where they absolutely trounced black-and-red rivals Sydney North West FC. From there they didn’t look back and now finish 4 points clear on top spot.
They now have a semi-final booked against defending champions Kenthurst, who have had yet another stellar season. After back-to-back wins in different associations, the Bushboys will be looking to be the first team in Hills Football PL history to defend the PL1 Grand Final title.
The loser of Semi-Final 1 will get a second chance against the winner of Semi-Final 2 which sees Castle Hill United and Winston Hills face off. The latter of those sides wasn’t quite as prolific in front of goal as they were in ’17. However they’ll have extra motivation heading into the finals, having fallen at the final hurdle last year. That experience may give them the edge over Castle Hill United, who themselves have done outstandingly well to improve on their 6th place finish in 2017.
United made some key additions in the off-season, whose contribution is best displayed by comparing their defensive efforts of the past two years. In 2017 the Green and Whites were conceding around 2 goals a game. That figure dropped to a frugal 0.77 goals per game this season. If they bring their best defensive effort come finals, they’ll stand every chance of toppling the three teams above them.
