Cup Delight for Bears

Winston Hills Bears took out the 2019 Hills Breast Cancer Cup after defeating Rouse Hill Rams 3-2 at Valentine Sports Park.

Coming off a 2-1 away win to Castle Hill United, Winston Hills were eager to edge closer to Kenthurst on the ladder.

The Rams came off a 0-2 home loss to Baulkham Hills, however knew that three points would provide them a huge boost of confidence for their hopes of playing finals football.

Although possession favoured Winston Hills, it was the Rams who took the lead in the 8th minute.

A long throw-in for the Rams and a defensive error from the Bears defence presented Mitchell Kennerson with a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper which he finished.

Despite going down early, Winston Hills were able to maintain possession and test out the Rams defence.

In the 30th minute, the Bears won a free kick and Adam Luzi made the most of it.

Luzi’s free kick beat the keeper on his near side into the bottom right hand corner to level the scores.

On the stroke of half-time, the Bears put a dagger to Ram’s confidence as nice play down the Bears’ right flank saw Mjay Koroma chip the goalkeeper outside the eighteen yard box and run in it.

The Rams came out of the sheds in a very positive manner as Cuan Ellis hit the crossbar from 25 yards out in what was an early warning sign.

Rouse Hill continued to put pressure on the Winston Hills backline, which stood firm.

But all the early pressure came to none, as a Winston Hills corner was swung in and a defensive error within the six yard box from the Rams saw the Bears up 3-1 in the 57th minute.

It looked very likely for Winston Hills to leave Valentine Sports Park with all three points, however on the 69th minute, Rouse Hill scored to make it 3-2.

Eran Underwood was able to split the Bears backline whose shot floated into the goal to set up a nervy finish.

Although Rouse Hill were gaining momentum it was too little too late, as Winston Hills collected all three points and the Hills Breast Cancer Cup.

On Saturday, Winston Hills travel to winless Glenhaven while Rouse Hill play away to Castle Hill United.
