Celebrate Female Football Week With Us

From the 2nd of May to the 11th of May, Hills Football is proud to join the nationwide celebration of Female Football Week – an opportunity to recognise, celebrate, and elevate the incredible women and girls that make up our game.

While it is important to note that Hills Football week in week out celebrate all 15,000 membership base, Female Football week is still so important to the future of our game.

Why Female Football Week Matters

While football is Australia’s most played team sport, there is still a significant gap in participation between Male and Females – something that Hills Football, and the wider football community, is committed to changing. At a community level, many females still face challenges that males don’t: limited access to all-female teams, societal perceptions about sport, and a lack of visible female role models in football are just a few of the barriers that can discourage ongoing participation.

That’s where Female Football Week plays a crucial role. It’s not just a celebration—it’s a statement of intent. It’s our chance to:

  • Raise awareness about the gender gap in football
  • Inspire young girls by highlighting female role models in the game
  • Show appreciation for the female volunteers and leaders who keep our clubs running
  • Create safe, inclusive environments where girls feel empowered to thrive

At Hills Football, we’ve seen first-hand how powerful female involvement in football can be. From our rapidly growing junior female’ competitions, to the Over 30s Women’s League providing new opportunities for women to enjoy football later in life. Off the back of a success women’s world cup on home soil, Football has seen a massive 24% growth,  momentum is building—and Female Football Week gives us an extra push to keep going.

We’re also seeing more women step into coaching and refereeing roles, proving that football isn’t just for those on the pitch—it’s for everyone. And when females see women leading from the front, they believe they can do it too.

Why Promoting Female Football is So Important

By promoting and supporting female football, we’re not only working towards gender equality, but we’re also strengthening our clubs and the entire football ecosystem. More female players means more teams, more games, more volunteers, and a more connected, diverse football family.

Plus, the benefits for girls and women go far beyond the game. Football builds confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and a sense of belonging—skills that last a lifetime.

Get involved

We invite everyone in the Hills Football community—players, coaches, parents, volunteers, and fans—to get involved. Support your local female’ teams, thank a female volunteer, attend a game, and share the message on social media using #FemaleFootballWeek and #HillsFootball.

Together, let’s celebrate the incredible women in our football family—and keep building a game where every girl feels welcome, supported, and unstoppable.
