During the month of March, Baulkham Hills Football Club held both MiniRoos and Skill Training Coaching Certificate education nights. Baulkham Hills FC has recognised the importance of Coach Education and have made it a high priority starting in 2019. Preseason presented a perfect opportunity to deliver these Coach Education courses, with the intent to upskill new and existing coaches. These courses are designed to enhance the Coaches knowledge of drills and exercises, however just as important, highlight the need to understand and develop appropriate coaching styles and behaviours that are both age appropriate and in line with the expectations and culture Baulkham Hills Football Club demand.
On Wednesday evening the 6th of March, Hills Football Coach Development Manager Zac Ribeiro visited Ted Horwood Reserve to deliver the MiniRoos Certificate. A total of 15 new and existing Coaches attended the course, which is a fantastic show of confidence and willingness to develop.
Coaches were put through their paces, designing practices which were based on being FUN and SAFE for players aged 5-8. A key message from the night was understanding how to keep players engaged for the duration of the session.
Ribeiro also attended the grounds over three nights to deliver the Skill Training Certificate for players aged 9-13.
Zac said “It was great to see some of the coaches who attended the Grassroots course enjoy the experiences and register for the Skill Training Certificate”
“With a total of 20 candidates on the course we split the group into three working groups discussing ideas and working together to put on practices for a Skill Intro, Skill Training and Skill Game, which are sections of a session in the Skill Acquisition training phase”.
The groups then presented their sessions based on the four core skills spread over each night, coaches would provide feedback and observe the groups delivery. Questions were asked to coaches after their sessions as to what would you Stop doing, Start Doing and Continue to do.
Club coaches Kevin Robinson and Gerard Chevalier who attending both courses mentioned “The coaching shouldn’t stop here, we are excited and keen to run more coaching workshops with Hills Football with the aim to create the best playing and training environment for our players” “It all starts with the coach” mentioned Gerard.
Well done to Baulkham Hills Football Club with 35 newly accredited coaches, we look forward to more coaching courses in the future with the club.
